Our submitted AngelHack '18 hackathon project, called Ocular Commerce, was AR technology that supports a wide variety of retail e-commerce markets (eg. clothing, makeup, furniture). I wanted to build on this project concept, creating a logo and establishing a design guide. I also created a few pieces of marketing collateral as examples of how the guide can be applied.

Logo & Style Guide

Abstract logo concept. A small turquoise circle overlaps a larger and muted-color ring. One possible interpretation is that the curve where the turquoise circle overlaps is made distinct, reflecting how AR technology (represented by the turquoise circle) can enhance our perception of the real-world (represented by the ring) through virtual figures. Since the circle would fit perfectly inside the ring, another possible interpretation is that AR technology (represented by the turquoise circle) can fill in the absences that we see in the real-world (represented by the ring) with virtual figures.

Style Guide - I chose monochromatic colors derived from the color teal due to their association with calmness and clarity. Since developers would likely be one of Ocular Commerce's target audiences (they would be the ones looking into and implementing the technology), I chose common programming font Menlo as the typeface for headers. For subordinate elements, I chose the more basic-looking but sleek typeface, Avenir.

Marketing Email

Email Template - Dominating elements include the main header and the "Get Started" messaging and CTA button. I added a figure of a person (Ocular Commerce CEO) in the header to make the email seem less cold and generic and more personable and welcoming. Focal points include the bulleted items within the body, which enable quick scanning through the email. The bottom of the email is more of a supplementary section and contains a row of customer logos, which give the company a sense of credibility.
